The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has awarded MTech degrees in Defence Technology to 59 officers of the Armoured Corps Centre and School (ACC&S), marking the successful completion of its first batch of the military-focused postgraduate programme.
The degrees were presented by IIT Ropar Director Rajeev Ahuja at a ceremony held at ACC&S in Ahilyanagar on Friday.
Jointly developed by IIT Ropar and ACC&S, the programme is designed to align advanced academic training with the technological requirements of the Indian Army. It emphasises applied research, practical learning and technology-based solutions to strengthen the modernisation and indigenisation of India's armed forces.
The initiative marks a first-of-its-kind effort by an IIT to offer an advanced postgraduate degree specifically designed for military applications.
Addressing the gathering, Ahuja said, “Today, classroom knowledge meets the battlefield. These officers will help India build its own defence technologies.”
The programme is expected to equip the graduating officers to contribute to technological modernisation across armoured formations and promote indigenous capabilities in defence manufacturing. The collaboration also establishes a framework for joint research and development in areas such as armoured vehicle technologies, advanced armaments and new materials.
The initiative aligns with India's vision of self-reliance in defence and the broader goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
